Grounding is a process of bringing yourself fully into your body. We are grounded when we can feel our
connection with the Earth and the presence of our being in all parts of the body, as well as the areas
above, below and around us. It can help switch off the “fight, flight, or freeze” part of the
brain.
Being grounded enables you to listen and be present, allowing you to hold focus on our true purpose and and avoid being affected by the negativity of others. When you are physically grounded, your emotions can be fully expressed through your thoughts and actions.
Signs that you are ungrounded:
- Difficulty focusing, making decisions and thinking clearly
- Feeling anxious or scattered; having a lack of concentration
- Anxiety, depression or feeling disconnected from others and yourself
- No feeling of joy and happiness; worry and fear about the future
How to ground yourself:
21 Point Breathing
Imagine that your 10 fingers, 10 toes and a point at the top of your head have nostrils. As you take a deep breath in, visualize that energy coming in through these 21 nostril points and meeting at the center of your body. As you exhale your breath, feel and see energy releasing out through these points. Repeat 6 to 8 times.
The Tree Connection
Stand with your feet approximately shoulder’s width apart. Keep your spine straight and your chin tucked. Gently place your hands over your navel or at your side. Without changing your posture, allow the feeling of your body’s weight and tension flow down to your feet. Imagine roots growing out the bottom of your feet, extending deep into the ground beneath you. Ask that you are connected to all the energy and resources that you need for the upcoming coming day.
AH and OH Sounds
Take a deep breath in. On the exhale, make the sound AAHHHH as you exhale. Feel this sound bringing the energy in your head down to your heart center in the middle of your chest. Repeat this sound several times until you feel more centered and peaceful. Next, take a deep breath and on the exhale, make the sound OOHHHH. This sound will bring the energy from your heart area down to your hips. As you repeat your breath and this sound, affirm that your heart centered energy is flowing from your hips all the way down your legs into the Earth.
